Queer Choir Musical Director

The Queer Choir is seeking a musical director to co-lead our group through the spring/summer 2025 to spring 2026 seasons. The musical director will work collaboratively with the QC steering committee to shape our musical vision and co-create a fun and inclusive space for our queer & trans community of singers.

​About Queer Choir
​The Queer Choir is an ensemble of queer, trans, and gender-nonconforming singers who rehearse in the East Bay. We intentionally reimagine the traditional choral model as a healing practice, emphasizing inclusivity, disability justice, and community building. Our goal is to create opportunities for queer and trans people to experience joy, connection, and pride in a supportive community.

Desired Qualities & Skills

• Has some experience with vocal musical direction or leadership with adults
• Collaborative teaching style, supporting leadership and skill sharing between choir members
• Piano skills to assist members learning in rehearsal 
• Interest in participating in repertoire and song selection alongside steering committee 
• Experience with multiple learning styles and supporting members with a diverse range in technical musical skills
• An interest and or ability to arrange music, or support in procuring custom arrangements 

Time Commitment
Spring/ Summer 2025

• Integration/collaboration with Steering Committee (2-4 hours per month, 2-3 months)
• Recording music/practice tracks and song selection (4-6 hours)
• Support with auditions (5-7 hours)

Fall 2025 - Spring 2026

• Weekly 2 hour rehearsals
• Monthly 1-1.5 hour meetings with Steering Committee
• 1-2 performances, including dress rehearsals (hours will vary)

Compensation
$50/hour. Hours will vary per week and season
